At High Desert Gear, we often say that Idaho isn’t just where we do business, it’s part of who we are. The rugged mountains, winding rivers, high desert landscapes, and four distinct seasons provide endless inspiration for the products we create. Living and working in Idaho gives us a unique perspective on what outdoor enthusiasts truly need. Whether it’s protection from the summer sun, comfort on a hiking trail, or versatility for a weekend getaway, our hats are designed by people who live the lifestyle every day.
Outdoor recreation is one of Idaho’s greatest treasures. From fishing and hiking to camping, kayaking, cycling, and exploring small towns, outdoor adventure is woven into the fabric of life here. It’s also one of the state’s biggest tourism attractions, drawing visitors from around the world to experience Idaho’s natural beauty.
As a company, we love finding opportunities to showcase our products while collaborating with other local businesses that make Idaho special. These partnerships allow us to celebrate the people, places, and industries that help our state thrive.
One industry that has experienced remarkable growth is Idaho’s wine region. Today, Idaho is recognized as one of the fastest-growing wine regions in the United States, generating more than $300 million in statewide economic impact. With over 70 wineries and more than 1,300 planted acres, Idaho wines continue to earn national recognition and attract visitors seeking unique experiences.
Recently, we had the privilege of hosting a High Desert Gear photoshoot at one of our favorite destinations, Huston Vineyards. Nestled in the heart of Idaho wine country, Huston Vineyards perfectly reflects the welcoming spirit and natural beauty that make our state so special.
Mary and Gregg Alger, along with their sons Jacob and Joshua, have built something truly remarkable. Their dedication and passion were on full display at the 2026 Idaho Wine Competition, where Huston Vineyards captured the prestigious Best in Show award, judged by respected Pacific Northwest wine experts. Of course, the award-winning wines are only part of the experience.
The atmosphere at Huston Vineyards is peaceful, inviting, and authentically Idaho. Visitors are greeted by sweeping vineyard views, warm hospitality, and a sense of community that encourages people to slow down and savor the moment. One of the highlights of the season is “Sippin’ in the Sunset,” held on the third Saturday of each month. It’s an evening filled with beautiful scenery, great wine, and the kind of relaxed outdoor living that makes Idaho such a wonderful place to call home. Spend just one evening there, and you’ll quickly understand why so many people fall in love with Idaho.
For us, outdoor living isn’t simply a backdrop for our products, it’s the inspiration behind them. Every trail, river, vineyard, and small-town gathering helps shape the way we think about comfort, function, and style. The people who live here value hard work, adventure, community, and authenticity, and those same values are woven into every High Desert Gear product. We couldn’t imagine a better place to design our hats.
Idaho’s landscapes challenge us, its climate tests us, and its communities inspire us. Whether we’re photographing a new collection in wine country, exploring a mountain trail, or partnering with local businesses, we’re constantly reminded how fortunate we are to call this incredible state home. And that’s what makes High Desert Gear truly Idaho-designed!
